Itinerary
WOLF TRAIL – 5-Hour Horseback Tracking Experience
Step into real wolf territory in the Eastern Carpathians and explore remote mountain landscapes on horseback.
The journey begins with a gradual ascent through a quiet valley toward a mountain pass. From there, we follow forest trails leading to Beskyd Saddle — a panoramic viewpoint located within an important wildlife corridor where wolves naturally move between valleys and ridges.
As we continue toward Driečna Valley, we cross open Carpathian meadows and forest edges — ideal terrain for tracking signs of wildlife activity. During a longer stop, you will learn how to identify paw prints, distinguish wolf tracks from domestic dogs, recognize territorial markings, and understand predator movement patterns in mountain ecosystems.
We ride quietly and attentively, scanning soft ground, forest crossings, and natural travel routes used by large carnivores.
The experience concludes with a final panoramic stop before returning through forest and meadow trails to the village.
This tour offers a rare combination of horseback riding and authentic wildlife tracking in one of Slovakia’s most untouched regions.
FRONTIER TRAIL – 2-Day Horseback Expedition
A deeper, more immersive journey into remote wolf habitat.
Starting from a small horse farm in the Stropkov District, we cross streams and open meadows before climbing into high forest ridges. These natural corridors are commonly used by wolves and other large predators moving between territories.
Throughout the ride, we observe terrain features favored by wildlife — elevated ridgelines, forest margins, and quiet transition zones between valleys.
At Príkranské meadows, we rest and assess signs of recent activity. If conditions allow, we may visit the historic wooden church in Príkra before continuing along the ridge.
Overnight in Remote Terrain
Choose between:
• Camping at the edge of a forest meadow
• Staying in a simple mountain cabin
Horses rest safely overnight in a secure paddock.
Day Two – Ridge Tracking
On the second day, we follow the ridge between Driečná and Suchá — locally known as the “wolf ridge.” This terrain offers excellent conditions for identifying tracks, scat, and other subtle indicators of predator presence.
The pace remains flexible, allowing time to observe, interpret, and fully experience the surrounding wilderness.
The expedition concludes with a return through forest paths and open meadows — completing two days of deep connection with one of Slovakia’s last truly wild landscapes.
